Mohammad Rasoulof, awarded the Golden Bear for There Is No Evil in 2020, presents his magnum opus. The Seed of the Sacred Fig offers a furious and unflinching reckoning with the Iranian terror regime, presented in the form of a brilliant, fast-paced political thriller replete with genuine images of the protests that took place in the autumn of 2022 and shook the country to its core. Produced inside Iran under difficult conditions, the movie pulls no punches, and Rasoulof was forced to leave Iran prior to the world premiere at Cannes.
At the 77th Cannes Film Festival, the audience celebrated The Seed of the Sacred Fig with a longer-than-usual standing ovation. It found an enthusiastic echo in the international press and, along with several other awards, received the Jury’s Special Prize.
